AMICCO PRESENTS: A LITTLE AUTUMN B & B
Anna Maria Island Concert Chorus & Orchestra
CrossPointe Fellowship Church in Anna Maria City
Anna Maria Island Concert Chorus & Orchestra (AMICCO) opens its 19th season on Sunday, November 13, 2011, at 2:00 p.m., at CrossPointe Fellowship Church, 8605 Gulf Drive, Holmes Beach, FL, on Anna Maria Island. Our first concert, “a Little Autumn B & B,” features the Masters - Bach and Beethoven. Maestro Alfred Gershfeld, AMICCO’s Artistic Director since 1993, credited with raising the orchestra above technical proficiency to an inspired mastery in performance, counts Beethoven’s Symphony #1 and Bach’s Cantata # 80 as two of his favorite to conduct. This accomplished Chorus and Orchestra are up to the task. Joining AMICCO this year as Chorus Master, Dr. Robert Parrish brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the position. Not only will Dr. Parrish conduct the chorus, he will also take starring roles in later productions.
Also featured in this concert is AMICCO’s Double Bassist, Jerome Butler. Mr. Butler performs Rossini-Paganini’s “Moses” at the November 13 concert. His debut performance in Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall, was hailed by the New York Times as "...the superb double bass soloist [who] climbed fearlessly into his extreme treble register, even breaking into a smile as his fingers danced dangerously close to the bow." Mr. Butler’s technique, labeled as the naturalist approach to concert pieces, broadens the spectrum of double bass music written in solo tuning to that written a step higher to produce a brighter and crisper sound. This solo by Mr. Butler illustrates the high caliber of musicians performing with AMICCO.
AMICCO’s January 2011 Young Solo Artist Competition Winner Joy Chatzistamatis will perform Bruch’s Violin Concerto. In addition to the prize award funded entirely by the generosity and sponsorship of The Rotary Club of Anna Maria Island, the winner of the competition is invited to perform at an AMICCO concert. At the time Ms. Chatzistamatis won the AMICCO competition in 2011 she was 13-years-old. Before entering the AMICCO competition, she competed in and won the 2011 Sarasota Orchestra’s Edward and Ida Wilkof Young Artists Concerto Competition. Now a ninth grade homeschooler Joy captivates any audience with her accomplished performance and professional demeanor.
Tickets are $20 per concert, with Season Series Tickets available at a discounted price. Tickets available at www.amicco.org; 941-778-8585; the Anna Maria Island Chamber of Commerce, 5313 Gulf Drive, Holmes Beach, FL; or at the door.
